PAVING PROJECT UPDATE – 9/9/14 – Things you need to know...

Post date: Sep 10, 2014 4:48:55 PM

During the next few weeks, Ruston will be doing the actual road paving. Each phase should take 2 days if weather cooperates. Please note the following:

  1. The process involves removing the existing "road" completely and pulverizing the material for the road bed, then laying down the pavement asphalt. This is large road construction equipment; please exercise considerable caution while it is on your street.

  2. The "paving" process will be done in 2 separate stages in each of the different sections of roads. First the old road bed will be scraped, pulverized, and compacted, after which vehicles will be able to drive on the stabilized road bed by that same evening. Next, around a week or two later, after the stabilized soil has been lab tested, the asphalt layer will be applied to create the final road surface. That second stage will require a second, short closing of the road, and you will get a separate notice about that in advance.

  3. While "your" section of road is under construction, access to your house might be limited or difficult. During the day, while your phase of the project is underway, you will not be able to park or drive on your section of road. You should be able to drive to your house after 5:00 p.n. and must leave by 7:00 a.m. We will have to tow vehicles that are not moved when your section is being worked on.

  4. As sections of Ericsson and other roads are under construction, you might have to find alternative ways in and out of your street -- please respect one-way streets (Webb, Russell, part of East Ericsson, and Froude) when possible. If you are forced to go the wrong way, do so slowly and cautiously.

  5. Parking will be difficult at times. Until the roads are fully resurfaced they will be 2 1/2 feet narrower due to the 3" lip at the curb. Everyone needs to work together to stagger the parking to leave as much space as possible for emergency vehicles. Fire hydrants must not be blocked. This is very important for safety reasons and avoiding ticketing by the fire department.

  6. Trash trucks will not be able to reach your house during your specific phase of construction.

  7. Manholes are also being elevated. These will be marked with cones. Please drive conservatively and appreciate that running over the elevated structures will damage your vehicle.

  8. If you have a construction project underway, you will have to comply with these restrictions. Deliveries will not be possible during your phase of work. Please plan accordingly.
